The Captain stood at the center of the intersection, the padded walls swallowing the hum of the ship until the silence felt unnatural. The Lieutenant swept his light across each passage, the beam catching faint impressions in the soft surface as if something had pressed against it from the other side.
The Ensign shifted uneasily, eyes flicking to the dark opening behind them. A faint tremor rippled along the padding to their right, followed by a low, wet hiss. The Captain raised a hand for silence, knowing the creature was already inside the crossroads...
