The Captain slowed as he approached the bend, the padded walls closing in like the lining of some great throat. The Lieutenant took point, rifle raised, the muted thud of each step vanishing into the soundless insulation.
The Ensign lingered a pace behind, eyes locked on the shadow pooling just beyond the corner. A faint rustle drifted from ahead, followed by the wet scrape of claws against the padded surface. The Captain signaled to hold, knowing the thing was waiting only a few feet away...
