The short corridor ended abruptly in a cramped storage alcove, its walls lined with towering pressurized cylinders. The Ensign crouched low, prying open a crate for anything that could be carried to the escape pods.

The Chief Engineer scanned the faded labels, muttering warnings about unstable contents while the Corporal kept watch at the entry. The hum of the cylinders filled the space, masking the distant thump of approaching boots. There was no time to take much, only what might help them survive once they were off the ship...
