The Major moved into the rounded corridor, the smooth walls catching glints of light from the dim overhead strips. Midway along, the wall sensors pulsed faster, and thin red laser beams swept slowly across the passage in tight, deliberate arcs.

The Corporal pressed flat against the wall, watching the beams slice through the air just inches from his armor. The Specialist crouched low, calculating the timing, knowing one mistake would mean instant death. The Major raised a hand, signaling for absolute silence as the beams shifted toward their position...
