The Commander pushed forward through the rounded corridor, the smooth walls gleaming under the flicker of failing lights. Midway along, the wall sensors blinked erratically, their rhythm drowned by the hiss of something eating into metal.

The Lieutenant froze as rivulets of acid began to pour from vents in the walls, splattering onto the deck and burning through with a sharp, acrid stench. The Sergeant backed up, scanning for an escape as the sizzling spread across their path. Each step forward or back threatened to end in the same way—melted into the deck with no way out...
