The Security Officer advanced down the passage, boots echoing softly against the dark alloy deck. The walls were seamless and cold, threaded with thin lines of glowing circuitry that pulsed in slow, deliberate rhythms. Overhead conduits throbbed faintly, their sound merging with the deep, constant hum that seemed to come from every direction.
A pale green light bled from hidden seams, casting shifting shadows that slid across the floor with each pulse. The air was cool, tinged with a metallic bite, and the presence of the Collective felt close, as if the ship itself was aware of every step...
