The Industrial Ladder Corridor echoed with metallic groans as workers reported hearing movement somewhere below the lower level, yet every inspection came back empty. A nervous Sergeant ordered the maintenance teams to stay together while a Lieutenant organized another sweep into the darkness beneath the colony.
Each climb down the ladder revealed fresh scratches on the walls and strange sounds that seemed to retreat just out of sight. The workers whispered that something was hunting through the maintenance shafts, waiting for the next shift change. When the motion tracker finally chirped from below, every rank realized the horror had been climbing toward them all along...
