The Corporal pressed his back to the cold bulkhead, blaster gripped tight, the only way out behind him. At his feet, the Ensign worked frantically to seal the maintenance hatch, welding sparks spitting across the narrow passage. The Captain’s voice crackled over the comm, urging them to hold position until the breach teams could be pushed back.

Every thud of boots on metal rang louder, closer, echoing down the confined space. The flicker of emergency lights painted the white panels in deep red shadows. There was nowhere to run, only the hope that the Sergeant’s squad would arrive before the corridor filled with enemy fire...
