The fans were still spinning when the squad arrived. Low ceiling. Flickering lights. A dead end choked with steam and the thrum of slow mechanical blades. The Sergeant raised a hand to halt the team. The Corporal swept left with the tracker. No clear signals but the air felt wrong.
The Private moved closer to the fans. Something dripped from the vent above. The Technician tried to bypass the control panel. Power was intermittent. Wires were melted. Not from heat, from acid. The fans were still spinning, but nothing was cooling.
