The Captain stepped into the rounded corridor, the smooth walls reflecting the dim, amber light. Halfway down, motion sensors blinked in steady rhythm, their soft clicks echoing in the still air.

The Lieutenant moved ahead, scanning for signs of interference, his rifle angled toward the shadows. The Sergeant kept to the rear, eyes tracking the sensor lights as if expecting them to fail. A faint metallic scrape drifted from beyond the midpoint, just past the reach of the sensors...
