The Captain halted at the junction, the rounded walls curving away into three dimly lit passages. Midway along each corridor, sensors blinked in slow rhythm, their steady glow broken by sudden erratic flashes.

The Lieutenant swept his rifle toward the left path as the readings spiked, the lights reflecting off his visor. The Sergeant shifted to cover the right, the air carrying a faint, sour stench that did not belong to the ship. A low, guttural hiss rolled from the darkness ahead, close enough to make the sensors stutter again...
