The Major stepped into the center of the intersection, the rounded walls arching away into four dim corridors. Midway down each passage, wall sensors blinked in irregular bursts, their red lights stuttering like a warning.

The Corporal swept his rifle toward the far corridor as the sensors flared brighter, reacting to unseen movement. The Specialist covered the left passage, his breath catching at the sound of claws skittering against metal. A sudden hiss echoed from behind them, forcing all three to turn at once...
