The Lieutenant followed, tricorder flickering with unstable readings that refused to settle. Soft green light spilled from the panels, casting shifting patterns over the deck.
Above, conduits throbbed with a slow, deliberate rhythm, the sound blending into the constant hum that seemed to come from everywhere at once. The metallic taste in the air hinted at something more than machinery, as if the ship itself was aware of their presence...
