The Security Officer entered the chamber, the walls lined with recessed alcoves that glowed faintly with a cold green light. Each alcove was framed in dark alloy, its surface alive with slow, pulsing circuitry that fed into thick conduits running along the deck and ceiling.
The air was sharp with the scent of ozone, and the low hum of power filled the space like a constant, distant drumbeat. Shadows shifted within some of the recesses, their forms just out of sight, as if the Collective lingered there in silent observation. Every step deeper into the room felt like moving under a hundred unblinking eyes...
