The Ensign moved cautiously through the wide passage, its dark alloy walls seamless and alive with slow, pulsing veins of green light. Overhead, massive conduits ran the length of the corridor, their steady throb resonating faintly through the deck beneath his boots. The air was cool and metallic, each breath carrying the taste of machinery.
Along the walls, recessed panels shifted with faint movement, as if the ship’s systems were watching from within. The hum of power was constant, pressing in from every side, and the Ensign felt the silent presence of the Collective following each step deeper into its domain...
