The Commander stood at the control panel, keeping the organism suspended beyond the glass in hard vacuum. The Lieutenant watched the readouts climb and fall, disturbed by how the life signs refused to fade.

The Ensign kept his distance, unsettled by the way the creature seemed to shift even without air or pressure. Everyone in the room understood the danger, because if containment failed, there would be nowhere left to retreat...
