The Sergeant’s squad stepped cautiously into the vast chamber, boots crunching over gravel and spent casings. Steel support beams loomed high above like the ribs of a dead beast. The space was massive, hollowed out by decades of mining—yet something else had taken it over.

Corridors branched in all directions. The Corporal marked them on his map, but the Captain was already scanning the dark ceiling. Movement. The resin sheen glistened overhead. The Lieutenant whispered, “Which way now?”
