The Corporal's boots echoed off the metal-grated floor as he reached the end of the shaft. Steel support beams arched above, half-consumed by the same dark resin coating the walls. The dead end was packed with crates, supply drums, and a broken frame—remnants of the last mining shift before contact was lost.

The Captain signaled for silence. Everyone froze. The Lieutenant raised the scanner—clear. But the Private pointed his pulse rifle toward the farthest crate. It was moving. Whatever was stockpiled here wasn't alone...
