The corridor narrowed, the walls alive with pulsing resin and the stench of decay. Along both sides, colonists were cocooned into place, their bodies wrapped tight in black secretion. 

The Technician scanned the colonists. One was still conscious. Barely. She begged them not to move her. Something was inside. The Private turned just in time to see a shape vanish into the ceiling.

The mission had been recon. Now it was a recovery. And every second longer in that corridor brought them closer to the next egg opening...
