The squad followed the signal to the end of the corridor, where the passage abruptly stopped. Resin covered the walls from floor to ceiling, glistening under the squad’s lights. 

The Technician tried to assess one of the colonists. His vitals were fading. A faint pulse. The Private stepped back. There were eggs. One was already open. And it was almost feeding time...
