The Lieutenant stopped at the junction where three corridors split off into shadow and flickering light. The Ensign stepped up beside him, tricorder sweeping each direction, its readout flashing with interference from damaged power relays. The walls bore streaks of scorched metal, and the faint smell of ionized air clung to the recycled atmosphere.

Somewhere down the left corridor, a distant thud echoed, followed by the low whine of a malfunctioning door struggling to close. The center path stretched into darkness, the right curving toward the damaged sections of the ship. Every route offered a risk, and the Lieutenant knew that whichever path they took, they would be walking into the unknown...
