The Lieutenant came to a halt at the intersection, the deck plating underfoot still warm from a recent power surge. The Ensign moved in beside him, tricorder humming as it struggled to cut through static interference. Three corridors branched away—one lit in a dim, unsteady glow, one disappearing into darkness, and one trailing the faint smell of burnt insulation.

The bulkheads at the junction bore fresh scorch marks, evidence of phaser fire at close range. Somewhere far off, metal groaned under stress, followed by the faint hiss of escaping air. The Lieutenant exchanged a brief glance with the Ensign, knowing that no matter which path they chose, the calm would not last...
