The Sergeant’s boots crunched softly on the damp resin floor as the squad entered the chamber. A circular pool glistened in the center of the four-way junction, murky and still, with faint ripples betraying something just beneath the surface.

Around it, a ring of swollen eggs stood silently, their tops twitching in response to the intruders’ presence. The Captain scanned the junction. “It's not just a passage. It's a breeding ground.”
