The Sergeant raised a hand, halting the squad at the junction. Three tunnels split off in different directions, each swallowed by darkness, but it was the center of the room that drew their eyes. A mound of hardened resin, pulsing faintly, stood like a throne of rot. Steel support beams warped outward as if something inside had pushed its way out.

The Corporal crept closer, motioning for the Private to scan it. Readings came back wrong, heat, but no life signs. Moisture dripped from the ceiling above, hissing where it touched the mound...
